Malayer — Iran’s horticulture sector has recorded a $4.5 billion trade surplus, playing a decisive role in the country’s $3 billion positive agricultural trade balance, Deputy Agriculture Minister Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi said.

 

Boroumandi said that despite reduced rainfall and ongoing sanctions, the agriculture sector grew by 6 percent in output and 5.6 percent in economic value.

 

“Pistachio exports led the way with $1.7 billion in revenue, while kiwi exports to India brought in $300 million. Apple exports to the Philippines were also launched, opening a new market for Iranian produce.”

 

He noted that the ministry’s budget has doubled from 280 trillion rials to 560 trillion rials, resolving long-standing issues in tractor supply. He emphasized that decision-making now involves active participation from the private sector.

 

Malayer in west-central Hamedan province, home to internationally registered vineyards, has earned the title of the “Pride of Iranian Horticulture”, the deputy minister said.
